Diabetes burnout can sabotage all the hard work that it takes to get your diabetes under control. Do you feel discouraged about not achieving your goals quickly enough? This is one of the leading causes of diabetes burnout.
There are things you can do to help get you back on track and avoid diabetes burnout.
Set SMART goals
Follow the SMART plan for goal setting. The goals must be:
S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Attainable
R – Realistic
T – Time-based
Name one behavior that you will change. What is the desired result? Be specific.
How will you quantify the numeric or descriptive completion? How can you manage progress?
What skills and resources are necessary? Are their factors that impact achievement?
Does your goal align with the overall strategy or mission?
What is the deadline and is that deadline a realistic one?
This template will help you set and attain your SMART goals.
Reward Yourself for Success
Reward yourself for success, even if it is for a small achievement. Consider an appropriate reward that does not involve fast food. Take yourself to a movie but avoid the extra buttered popcorn. Rent or buy a favorite movie and cozy up in your favorite loungewear.
Purchase something that you really want for yourself, but do not break the bank. Take a break and spend time with friends.
Rewarding yourself for achieving a small goal will help you stay on track and avoid diabetes burnout.
