Eating healthily is already a challenge for many people who have diabetes. Eating healthily when others fail to do so is likely to be an even bigger challenge. You can learn how to eat healthily to control your blood sugar with these 5 tips.
Perhaps you go to a restaurant with your family or friends. They order their favorite unhealthy meal. Perhaps your significant other or someone else that should be a part of your support team flaunts the fact that they can eat whatever they want in front of you. Do not let these situations cause you to give in and stop following your healthy meal plans.
Check the menu before you go to a restaurant. You can do this prior to leaving by reading the menu online. Then, when you arrive, you do not feel embarrassed trying to find something on the menu that you are allowed to eat.
Avoid sweet beverages. Do not drink sweet tea, soda, or other unhealthy drinks just because family, friends and co-workers drink them. Drink water with a few mixed berries or another healthier drink.
Eat dessert. Gathering with loved ones does not mean that you cannot have a dessert. Eat a small portion or choose a healthy fruit as your dessert option.
Stick to your meal times. Do not wait for the spouse who is bringing home a large pizza or bucket of chicken. If the family gathering or restaurant gathering of friends is too late for you, give them a rain check. They were probably going to order the burgers and fries anyway.
